Halva Finnish Soft Eating Licorice Bag, 200g

Halva Finnish Soft Eating Licorice Bag, 200g

Tuck into a bag of Halva Finnish soft eating licorice, or liquorice, for a taste of Finland’s favourite candy. The soft and chewy liquorice sticks are a great little pick-me-up in the afternoons.

‘Licorice’ is the American-English translation of lakritsi, the Finnish word for liquorice.

Halva is one of Finland’s most famous candy producers and is one of the leading manufacturers of liquorice in Scandinavia. Halva was founded in the 1930s by Jean Karavokyro and Michael Karavokyro, brothers from Greece who left to seek their fortune and ended up in Finland. Their grandmother sent them on their way with her recipe for Greek halva, and the brothers started a confectionery business.

However, during the Second World War, the raw materials for halva were no longer imported into Finland. So, the brothers started making hard candies, caramels and eventually liquorice. The liquorice was so successful that it became the company’s main product.
